In Lieu is pleased to announce a somewhat thin line, an exhibition of new work from fourteen artists.

Ida Badal (b. 1989) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She recieved a BFA from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2013. She has had a solo exhibition at Ovo (Dallas) and participated in group exhibitions at 12.26 West (Los Angeles), MASCOT (Los Angeles), One Trick Pony (Los Angeles), and Fisher Parrish (New York).

Kayla Ephros (b. 1992) is a visual artist and writer who lives and works in Los Angeles. She received a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2017. She has had solo presentations at From The Desk of Lucy Bull (Los Angeles), Et. al (San Francisco), and in lieu (Los Angeles). Ephros is the leader of the September Spring writer’s workshop at Kesey Farm Project (Eugene) and founder of Poetry Club at 2727 California Street (Berkeley). She regularly hosts writing and poetry workshops.

Olivia Hill (b. 1985) lives and works between Los Angeles and Yucca Valley. She received an MFA from University of California, Riverside in 2020 and a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2006. Recent group exhibitions include As It Stands (Los Angeles) Psycho Geology at Bendix Building (Los Angeles) (curated by Anna Elise Johnson) and No Matter What, MFA thesis exhibition at JOAN (Los Angeles)

Stephanie Ligeti (b. 1988) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto, working predominantly with painting. She received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Ontario College of Art & Design University in 2021. She has been included in group exhibitions at the plumb (Toronto), and Art Mûr (Montreal).

Emma McMillan (b. 1989) lives and works in New York. She received her BFA from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2012. Solo exhibitions include Paul Rudolph Heritage Foundation (New York), Atlanta Contemporary (Atlanta), Édouard Montassut (Paris), Lomex (New York), and Bad Reputation (Los Angeles). McMillian’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Peter Freeman Gallery (New York), Praterstrasse 32/308 (Vienna), Alyssa Davis Gallery (New York), Swiss Institute (Rome), and Lomex (New York). The artist’s work has been the subject of extensive media coverage in Artforum, Flash Art International, Guernica, and Mousse, among numerous other publications. Her work is included in the permanent collections of Museum fur Moderner Kunst Vienna and the Albertina Museum.

Catherine Mulligan lives and works in New York. She received an MFA from Indiana University Bloomington in 2019 and a BFA from University of Pennsylvania in 2010. She has had solo exhibitions at M+B Gallery (Los Angeles), Hans Gallery (Chicago), and Paradise Palace (New York). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Harkawik Gallery (New York), Downs and Ross (New York), Queer Thoughts (New York), and Bonner Kunstverein (Bonn).

Justine Neuberger (b. 1993) lives and works in New York. She has had solo exhibitions at 15 Orient (New York), Clima (Milan), and 17 Essex (New York). Recent group exhibitions include: Shoot the Lobster (Los Angeles), and Svetlana (New York).

David Ngiam (b. 1961) lives and works in Flushing, Queens. He has been quietly making paintings for decades and had his first solo exhibition in 2022 at King’s Leap (New York).

Emma Schwartz (b. 1992) lives and works in New York. She received an MFA from Columbia University in 2019 and BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. She has had a solo exhibition at Chapter (New York) and participated in recent group exhibitions at Circle Contemporary (Chicago), FALSE FLAG (New York), Y2K (New York), The Hole (New York), and DUPLEX (New York). In 2019 she received the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Venice Award.

Joe W. Speier (b. 1992) lives and works in Brooklyn. Recent solo exhibitions include Plague Space (Krasnodar, RU) and King’s Leap (New York). Selected exhibitions include Springsteen Gallery (Baltimore, MD), a two-person with Zoe Barcza at Galerie Schmid (Chicago), and Gern en Regalia, (New York).

Hannah Taurins (b. 1997) is an artist who lives and works in New York. She received a BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2021. She has had a solo exhibition at Theta (New York) and participated in a group exhibition at Entrance (New York).

Michelle Uckotter (b. 1992) is an artist living and working in New York. Recent solo exhibitions include King’s Leap (New York), Springsteen Gallery (Baltimore), and A.D. Gallery (New York). Recent group exhibitions include Sebastian Gladstone (Los Angeles), Deli Gallery (New York), East Hampton Shed (Brooklyn), Mejia Gallery (Melbourne), and Mole End (Queens).

Erin Calla Watson (b. 1993) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Watson received a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2016 and is an MFA candidate at California Institute of the Arts (2023). She has had a solo exhibition at Larder (Los Angeles) and recent group exhibitions include Foxy Production (Los Angeles), Chateau Shatto (Los Angeles), Real Pain (Los Angeles), and As It Stands (Los Angeles).

Robert Zehnder (b. 1992) lives and works in New York. He received a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Zehnder’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York), and Mrs. (Maspeth).
